Craigslisting: McGuire Barrel Chairs

On Friday night after I put the baby down to sleep I did a little Craigslisting just for fun (I know, big night, right?) and came across an interesting pair of chairs...

The price was right and they were only a few blocks from my house, so I hopped in the car to check them out early Saturday morning. I instantly fell in love with them! That sleek barrel shape, but how fun is the circle rattan detailing on the back!

I knew they were a project but I didn't realize what a score I had found until I did a little googling and realized they were designed by Laura Kirar for Mcguire @here:

Come to find out these babies retail for $4800/chair! Can you even?! Needless to say I'm dreaming up some fabby upholstery ideas and will be holding on to these guys all for myself. Couldn't you see them freshly lacquered with a retro-inspired Trina Turk fabric? So many possibilities!

Give it up For the Sputnik

In 1957, the Soviets launched the Sputnik satellite, the first man-made object ever to orbit the earth. It looked a little something like this...

It triggered the Space Age, which became a HUGE influence on furniture and decor at the time. The iconic Sputnik chandelier was soon to follow, and it has proven it's staying power in hip households on into today...

It's always been a dream of mine to have one to call my own. When we lived in San Francisco and owning a home was merely a pipe dream, I used to stalk eBay for these to see if I could find any too-good-to-pass-up deals. Now that owning our own home is just within reach, FINALLY today this happened...

DREAMS DO COME TRUE!! I found her on CL, I think it was fate : )

So sorry y'all, but this beauty is sticking with me for a while! xx
